PPozzuoli – Work has officially begun at the port of Pozzuoli on the installation of a floating pontoon, a solution designed to address the critical issues caused by the bradyseism that has been affecting the Phlegraean Fields for months.
The work will allow the embarkations and disembarks to remain operational from and to the islands of Ischia and Procida, avoiding the structural raising of the docks.
Construction has begun along the commercial dock of the Pozzuoli port, where an area has already been fenced off and demolition of the concrete slab is underway.
At that point, a metal beam will be positioned to support one of the pontoon's access ramps. Once operational, the system will allow the safe transit of passengers, commercial vehicles, and buses, overcoming the current significant difference in height between the dock and the ferry doors, which has become a serious operational and safety obstacle.
The modular pontoon, over 50 meters long, will arrive at the port in the next few days. The project is being coordinated by the Campania Region's Directorate General for Mobility, which has estimated the total duration of the work required for its commissioning at approximately 35 days.
With this solution, the port of Pozzuoli will be able to continue to guarantee maritime connections with the Gulf islands even in the face of the land uplift phenomena that are altering the elevation of the entire Phlegraean Fields area.
