Naples, over 4 licenses suspended in eight months: the Prefect cracks down on road safety.

Naples – A flurry of measures marks an unprecedented crackdown on road safety. The Prefect of Naples , Michele di Bari, has released data on the Driver's License Office's activity in the first eight months of the year, reflecting a tough stance against those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use cell phones while driving, or, worse still, fail to provide assistance.

Since last January, 4.046 driver's license suspensions have been issued, most for the improper use of electronic devices while driving, and 385 revocations, primarily against those who returned to the wheel despite an ongoing suspension or those who were driving a seized vehicle.

In addition, there were 116 seizures and administrative detentions, almost all related to lack of insurance or vehicle registration documents. The enforcement activity was not limited to violations, but also addressed the subjective conditions of driving test candidates: 1.379 positions were reviewed, with 325 refusals, 56 post-issue revocations, and 19 withdrawals ordered by judicial authority.

Numerous precautionary proceedings are still pending, involving cases of drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs, failure to render assistance, and accidents involving serious violations. This is a clear sign, explains the Prefect, of a relentless prevention strategy: "The goal is to save lives by apprehending those who pose a danger to themselves and others."
