Carabinieri raided Orta di Atella early yesterday afternoon, where an illegal landfill site was discovered and seized in a rural area.

The local station's military personnel, with the support of the Marcianise Forestry Unit, intervened on a piece of land adjacent to Via Giovanni Paolo II, proceeding with the criminal seizure of an area of approximately 320 square meters transformed into an illegal dumping site.

Piles of special waste, including hazardous waste

Approximately 300 cubic meters of hazardous and non-hazardous waste were found within the area. A huge quantity of heterogeneous materials piled up without any controls: mattresses, plastics, wooden furniture parts, construction waste, and bituminous membranes.

An uncontrolled mass that, in addition to disfiguring the rural landscape, represents a potential danger to the environment and public health, especially in an area long under scrutiny for the phenomenon of illegal landfills.

Investigations are underway into those responsible.

The project is part of a series of services aimed at environmental protection and combating illegal waste disposal, an activity that continues with particular focus in the Atellan area.

Investigations are currently underway to identify the owner of the affected parcel and to trace any persons responsible for the spill.

Meanwhile, the area and waste have been seized and placed in judicial custody of the head of the Municipal Technical Office. The judicial authorities have been informed, and will assess the appropriate measures.
