Naples, taxi drivers protest in Vomero: "More restricted traffic zones and pedestrian areas for efficient service."

Naples – Neapolitan taxi drivers staged a new demonstration yesterday morning, holding a peaceful sit-in in Vomero, near the standoff in Piazza degli Artisti. The protest centered on a loud demand for a permanent traffic plan, the expansion of limited traffic zones (ZTLs), and the creation of new pedestrian areas.

These measures, according to the industry, are now essential not only to ensure residents' quality of life, but also to make non-scheduled public transport faster, more efficient, and, consequently, less polluting.

The initiative took place without impacting road traffic. Taxi drivers preferred to engage directly with customers, explaining the reasons for the protest to passersby and receiving strong support.

"We are very pleased with the reception," the protest organizers explained. "The citizens responded with great interest and showed their full support, including a massive turnout for our signature drive."

The Vomero demonstration is the second in a series of mobilizations coordinated by the category. The first sit-in took place on April 25th in the central Piazza dei Martiri, reflecting the widespread discontent affecting the city's transportation hubs.
