Sannazaro Theater Fire: Two Under Investigation for Arson

Naples – The investigation continues into the fire that severely damaged the Teatro Sannazaro di Chiaia, a historic symbol of Neapolitan culture, on February 17. The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Mario Canale and Deputy Prosecutor Antonio Ricci, has ordered a one-off technical inspection for Wednesday, May 27, on debris collected from the stage and under-stage area, an area identified by investigators as the possible origin of the flames.

Registration in the register of suspects

In preparation for the technical examination, the Prosecutor's Office has registered Salvatore Vanorio, the theater's former manager, and Giuseppe Falco, owner of the company responsible for carrying out maintenance work on the building, as suspects – on suspicion of arson.

Investigators define the legal action as a "due act," necessary to guarantee the interested parties the right to appoint their own consultants to participate in the expert assessments. Representatives of the injured parties, including residents of neighboring properties affected by the fire, and the Ministry of Culture, may also participate in the investigations.

The hypothesis being examined by investigators

The investigation, supported by initial findings from the State Police and the testimonies collected, focuses in particular on the restoration work begun in the weeks preceding the event, following a water infiltration detected on January 26 near the stage.

Among the avenues being explored by investigators, it has not been ruled out that the flames may have been triggered by the overheating of some electrical machinery or equipment left connected to the power grid near the stage. Technical investigations over the next few days will verify this possibility or confirm other investigative hypotheses, as the investigation is still being finalized.

Regarding the investigation's progress, Salvatore Vanorio briefly commented on the news: "Any action that can help bring the truth to light is welcome," reiterating his willingness to cooperate with the relevant authorities to clarify what happened.
