Capri: LeBron James plays golf from his yacht, and Codacons files a complaint for pollution.

In the midst of his Italian holidays in CapriWorld basketball star LeBron James is at the center of a complaint filed by Codacons Campania with the Naples Prosecutor's Office. The association is requesting an investigation into the potential environmental impact of golf balls that ended up in the sea during a training session filmed and shared on social media by the American champion himself.

The social video and the balls that ended up in the water

According to Codacons, the athlete posted a video of himself practicing hitting golf balls from his yacht in the waters off Capri. The footage, shared on social media, allegedly shows the balls landing directly in the sea.

This circumstance prompted the consumers' association to request a further investigation by the judiciary to ascertain the nature of the material used.

The complaint to the Naples Prosecutor's Office

"We have decided to refer the case to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office to determine whether the balls used were biodegradable or, conversely, could pose a potential environmental threat," said lawyer Matteo Marchetti, president of Codacons Campania.

The association emphasizes that the affected area is characterized by high landscape and environmental value and believes it is necessary to clarify whether the action could have had consequences for the marine ecosystem.

The appeal to the rules on environmental pollution

In its complaint, Codacons cites the provisions of Article 452-bis of the Criminal Code, which regulates the crime of environmental pollution and establishes sanctions in cases of significant and measurable damage to water, ecosystems, and biodiversity.
The association also highlights that penalties can be increased when the offenses involve areas subject to particular landscape or environmental constraints.

"We were shocked to read the news," Marchetti added, "and with our complaint, we want to understand whether balls were used that don't represent a form of pollution for the clear waters of Capri."
The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office will now evaluate the report and determine whether there are grounds for further investigation. Currently, there are no formal charges against the American sample.
