Naples: Man snatches gold necklace from elevator entrance on Via Acton; arrested

Naples – Carabinieri officers from the Mobile Radio Unit arrested Nadhir Brighen, a 32-year-old Algerian man, on charges of improper robbery and illegal possession of a weapon. The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 this morning near the municipal elevator on Via Acton, where a 57-year-old Sri Lankan citizen was waiting his turn to enter.

According to the military's reconstruction, the man was approached by Brighen, who attacked him from behind, ripped a gold necklace from his neck, and, in the same gesture, pulled out a switchblade. The timely presence of a Carabinieri patrol car, engaged in patrolling the area, allowed for immediate intervention: the Carabinieri arrested the attacker, recovered the jewelry, and seized the weapon.

The victim was treated on the scene; his injuries were deemed curable within ten days. Brighen, already known to law enforcement for previous property crimes, was taken to prison pending a hearing to validate his arrest, scheduled for the next 48 hours.

The Carabinieri operation is part of the strengthening of anti-crime controls in the city center, particularly focused on pedestrian areas where an increase in petty crimes against people has been recorded in recent months.
