Fire at the Ospedale del Mare: the prefect summons the Rescue Coordination Center.

On the afternoon of Sunday, June 21, 2026, a fire broke out in a building located on the eastern side of the Ospedale del Mare hospital in Naples. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, promptly convened a Rescue Coordination Center (CCS), which involved the Fire Department, the local health authority, the 118 emergency medical service, law enforcement agencies, and the Naples Local Police.

The flames engulfed part of the building's façade, necessitating the precautionary evacuation of some departments, particularly those containing oxygen equipment. Patients in the affected area were transferred to other departments within the same hospital. Firefighters are currently also working on other blocks where smoke has been rising.

Four firefighter teams, six State Police crews, four Carabinieri, and local police personnel are on the scene. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed his concern about the incident on X, reassuring everyone that there were no injuries and thanking the firefighters and medical personnel for their timely intervention and the care they provided to the patients.
