Castel Volturno – A 37-year-old woman of Ukrainian origins dived into the sea and was swept out to sea by the currents. She died before her boyfriend's eyes. She was on a public beach off the Castel Volturno coast.
The tragedy occurred yesterday afternoon in the Via del Mare area, between Pinetamare and Ischitella. The victim, Yaroslava Vodianak, entered the water despite particularly rough seas and was swept out to sea by the current. Her boyfriend dived in to help the woman.
Emergency services were alerted, and the woman was rescued and brought to shore. Two 118 ambulances arrived on the scene and performed CPR. Unfortunately, the 37-year-old woman died. The woman's boyfriend was also treated by the paramedics who arrived on the scene.
In the same area, there have been several cases of drowning in recent years, largely due to the strong ocean currents that occur when the sea is particularly rough.
