Giugliano Prefecture holds a meeting on Roma camps: plan to restore water and energy

Drinking water, electricity, and social inclusion programs were the focus of the institutional discussion convened this morning at the Prefecture in Naples to address the critical issues surrounding the Roma camps in the Giugliano in Campania area. The meeting, chaired by Prefect Michele di Bari, was attended by the mayor of Giugliano, representatives of the Metropolitan City, E-Distribuzione, the Campania Episcopal Conference for Roma and Migrants, the Associazione 21 Luglio, and law enforcement.

Particular attention has been paid to the ASI development zone, where essential services are being restored. Regarding the water network, the Municipality explained that it is awaiting the infrastructure upgrade by the ASI Consortium. Until then, water distribution will continue to be guaranteed by municipal tankers, operating twice a week.

Regarding electricity supply, a shared process has been established with E-Distribuzione. The Municipality, through Hera Comm SpA, will request the installation of a metering unit that will subsequently allow for the necessary interventions to be carried out to power individual users. While awaiting the activation of the permanent service, the municipal administration has committed to evaluating temporary and safe technical solutions to ensure power supply to the residential modules.

The future of the Carrafiello settlement was also addressed during the meeting. The municipal administration presented updates to the Local Action Plan, adopted last May, aimed at gradually closing down the camp. Among the planned initiatives is the reservation of 10% of available places in municipal summer camps for Roma minors, with the aim of promoting educational continuity and strengthening social integration processes, including during the school holidays.

At the end of the meeting, all stakeholders confirmed their full commitment to expediting procedures and effectively implementing the planned interventions. The institutional committee will remain operational to constantly monitor the progress of activities and compliance with commitments.
