Machete ambush in front of chalet in Pomigliano: two arrests
A summer night out quickly turned into a dramatic episode of violence. This is what happened on June 25th in Pomigliano d'Arco, in front of the Chalet del Sole, where a young man was seriously injured after being attacked with a machete.
According to the reconstruction contained in the documents of the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office and supported by images from video surveillance cameras installed in the Circumvesuviana area, three young men arrived on the scene on a scooter, launching what investigators believe to be a veritable punitive expedition.
The investigations, conducted quickly by officers from the Acerra Police Station, led to the execution of two precautionary measures.
According to the investigative reconstruction, the scooter was driven by Francesco Pio Romano, 19. After stopping in front of the bar, the young man allegedly pulled out a machete, hidden until then in the space between the seat and the handlebars of the moped, and attacked Angelo Piccolo.
According to investigators, the blows were aimed at the victim's head, neck and shoulder with extreme violence.
Even more serious consequences could have been avoided thanks to the timely intervention of the injured young man's friends, who managed to stop the attacker, disarm him, and scare him away.
The victim, seriously injured in the head and shoulder, was rescued and rushed to the Villa dei Fiori clinic, where he received medical treatment. His condition, although serious, was not life-threatening.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, Preliminary Investigations Judge Teresa Valentino ordered the 19-year-old to be held in prison, as he is seriously suspected of attempted murder.
The defense, represented by lawyer Fabrizio De Maio, disputes the prosecution's approach and seeks a different legal classification of the facts, arguing that the incident should be classified as a crime of assault.
The precautionary order also addresses the position of Gabriel Vanzanella, 21, a resident of Torre del Greco, who, according to investigators, got off the scooter with the alleged attacker.
Although he is not accused of physically holding the weapon or striking the victim, the Prosecutor's Office believes his presence provided moral support and strengthened the group's actions. For this reason, the investigating judge ordered him placed under house arrest.
The investigation is not concluded. Investigators are working to identify a third boy who was present during the attack but who, at this time, has not yet been identified.
The episode refocuses attention on the phenomenon of youth violence in nightlife areas, where a fun evening can suddenly turn into a bloodbath, raising increasingly pressing questions about safety and the growing use of weapons among younger generations.
