Dr. Luigi Maiello, director and commander of the Local Police of the Municipality of Arzano, has been appointed to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into illegal activities related to the waste cycle and other environmental and agri-food crimes.

The resolution was adopted by the Commission's Bureau, supplemented by representatives of the parliamentary groups, pursuant to the founding law (No. 53 of May 10, 2023). The assignment, part-time and completely unpaid, will begin upon acceptance and acquisition of the necessary authorizations. The request was also forwarded to the mayors of Arzano and Pomigliano d'Arco.

The experience against "grey gold" and eco-mafias

This is a particularly significant institutional recognition. Over the years, Maiello has built a solid track record in combating environmental crimes, with a particular focus on building enforcement and the clans' "grey gold" phenomenon: property speculation and the illegal cement industry.

A wealth of expertise developed through judicial police investigations, numerous field operations, and ongoing collaboration with judicial authorities and national institutions.

The Value of Local Police in Parliamentary Investigations

The appointment underscores the technical and operational contribution that Local Police can offer to Commissions of Inquiry. This specialized expertise is made available to the State for the prevention and fight against environmental crime, protecting the law, the environment, and public health.

"It is a great honor and, above all, a responsibility to the State and its citizens," Maiello declared, thanking the Commission's President, the Honorable Jacopo Morrone, Vice President, the Honorable Francesco Emilio Borrelli, and all its members. The work will be carried out with a spirit of service and in full respect of institutional roles.

A signal for the territory

This appointment represents further recognition not only of Commander Maiello's professional career, but also of the strategic role the Local Police are called upon to play today against eco-mafia, environmental crimes, and criminal infiltration in the construction and waste management sectors. The skills acquired in the field can thus provide concrete support for Parliament's fact-finding and investigative work.
