Positano, new seizure of documents at the municipality
A new judicial uproar has struck in Positano, where Carabinieri officers from the Salerno Provincial Command have returned to the municipal offices. Acting on a mandate from the Public Prosecutor's Office, headed by Giuseppe Borrelli, the officers have formally acquired new documents in the proceedings concerning alleged rigged tenders, corruption, and bid-rigging.
At the center of the new investigative investigation are the procedures initiated by the administration of former mayor Giuseppe Guida, who remained at the helm until May 24. The investigators' checks focused on the procedures for assigning four ticket booths along the coastal town's landing stage.
The investigation, formally launched on June 18, has eleven people under investigation, including outgoing administrators, municipal employees, and local business owners. In addition to Guida, the suspects also include former councilor Michele De Lucia, a former mayor, former delegate Raffaele Guarracino, and eight businesses.
The hypothesis being examined by investigators describes an alleged scheme through which concessions and services were systematically channeled to a select group of companies. According to the investigations, this conduct circumvented the rotation principle established by the Public Contracts Code.
The Prosecutor's Office is also examining the network of shareholdings and corporate ties between the contractors to identify any undeclared business connections. The indictment, which has reached the preliminary investigation stage, remains subject to investigation by the competent judicial authorities.
The affair stems from a series of reports filed over the past few years, culminating in the public complaints filed by Gabriella Guida, then a minority councilor. The new municipal council, which took office after the local elections at the end of May, has confirmed its policy of maximum institutional cooperation with the judicial authorities.
