Cava de' Tirreni's Villa Comunale has been devastated: the municipality has ordered its evening closure.

Cava de' Tirreni – Marble benches and seats torn and shattered, trash cans overturned, walls smeared with spray paint, and trash scattered across the avenues. This is the devastated appearance of the "Falcone and Borsellino" municipal park in Cava de' Tirreni, a symbol of the city dedicated to the memory of the two anti-mafia magistrates.

The mayor himself, Vincenzo Servalli (also known as Raffaele Giordano), publicly denounced the incident through a video of the inspection posted on his social media channels to show residents the extent of the damage. This incident prompted the city administration to immediately file a complaint against unknown persons and take drastic measures to protect the green space.

Starting this evening, the gates to the city park will remain locked every day from 22:00 PM. This was an unavoidable decision, the mayor explained, dictated by the impossibility of ensuring constant surveillance: "It's a decision I deeply regret, but it's essential. Currently, the lack of financial resources and staffing within the Municipal Police force prevents us from ensuring adequate nighttime surveillance."

The early closure, however, is a temporary emergency measure. The Municipality's plan to secure the park includes the imminent installation of a high-definition video surveillance system, the assignment of an internal kiosk with associated security service through a public tender, and the active involvement of local volunteer associations in patrolling the area.

"We will not stop there, and we will track down those responsible by analyzing CCTV footage from the entire area," the mayor firmly reiterated, concluding with an appeal to the community: "We must take care of our city and defend our common heritage from those who continue to damage it. I trust in the cooperation of all citizens."
