Marano – An attempted online grooming of a nine-year-old girl was foiled and reported in Marano di Napoli thanks to the quick response of her parents, who impersonated their daughter to collect digital evidence and hand it over to the Carabinieri.
The incident escalated when the minor began receiving explicit messages on her social media profiles from an unknown account. Faced with these unmistakable advances, the girl immediately notified her family. The parents chose not to simply block the contact, but to continue the conversation on their daughter's behalf to secure evidence of the crime before filing a report with the local police station.
The investigation quickly expanded. Law enforcement and the Public Prosecutor's Office also focused their attention on the community of Campagna, in the province of Salerno, where the alleged perpetrator resides, and whose reports came directly from residents.
Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, contacted directly by the victim's family, spoke about the case: "I thank the parents for their promptness and courage in immediately reporting the incident and alerting the community.
What has been reported is extremely serious: social networks must not be turned into a hunting ground for criminals. We hope that the judiciary and law enforcement agencies will quickly shed light on the facts and promptly take the necessary measures to ensure the safety and protection of minors.
