Maritime Safety in Naples: Over 700 Vessels Checked During Ferragosto
During the week of August 10th to 16th, the Gulf of Naples was the subject of extensive maritime and coastal control operations ordered by Prefect Michele di Bari, pursuant to the directives of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety.
A task force composed of the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, and Port Authority patrolled the main shipping routes, port areas, and coasts of the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, ensuring rigorous surveillance of recreational boating and the safety of swimmers.
A total of 723 vessels were inspected, with a total of 1369 people on board. The checks resulted in 152 fines being issued and four vessels being seized. Specifically, 126 individuals were fined for violations of the Navigation Code.
The Coast Guard played a key role in coordinating safety operations and rescuing people in difficulty, especially during peak tourist season.
The Prefect of Bari emphasized the importance of the synergy between law enforcement and the Port Authority, thanking the dedicated personnel for contributing to a safe, orderly, and law-abiding Ferragosto. The constant and visible presence of the State along the coasts has proven essential to ensuring the peace of mind of citizens and visitors during one of the most critical weeks of the year for maritime safety.
