Campi Flegrei, Fico: "A special law should be prioritized over a state of emergency."

During a meeting at the Pozzuoli Municipal Operations Center, Campania Region President Roberto Fico clarified that no formal request for a state of emergency for the Phlegraean Fields had ever been made during discussions with the government.

"No minister of the Italian Republic has ever spoken to me about declaring a state of emergency," Fico stated, emphasizing that such a decision must be shared with the national executive. Instead, the president emphasized that the priority is the adoption of a special law that recognizes the specificity and complexity of the geological and social situation of the Campi Flegrei area.

According to Fico, this legislation should clearly and consistently define risk management methods, encouraging local communities to cope with a phenomenon that is part of their daily lives. Finally, the president reiterated the importance of loyal collaboration between the Region and the Government to effectively address the issue, calling for a shared path to protect and secure the area.
