A couple from Campania were arrested by the Carabinieri in the province of Arezzo on charges of defrauding elderly people in various Italian towns using a law enforcement technique known as forgery.

Two Campanian couples arrested in Tuscany accused of defrauding the elderly in various Italian regions.
Carabinieri officers from the Sansepolcro branch of the Arezzo police station have arrested a couple from Campania, aged 39 and 36, believed to be responsible for a series of scams targeting seniors in various parts of Italy. The couple, accompanied by their seven-year-old son, allegedly carried out scams based on the deception of being law enforcement officers.
In one confirmed incident, the two allegedly convinced an elderly Bolognese couple to hand over gold and cash, worth approximately €70 in jewelry and €700 in cash. The scam was allegedly carried out under the guise of cloning the man's identity card, a presumed tool for criminal activity by Albanian criminals.
After persuading the elderly man to go to the Financial Police headquarters in Bologna, the woman collected the valuables from the home, then handed them over to her husband, who took them. Local law enforcement, alerted by the victim, verified that no official communication had been sent by the Financial Police, thus confirming the fraud.
Thanks to video surveillance footage and cross-referencing reports, the couple was intercepted during their escape by Carabinieri officers from the Sansepolcro branch and the Pieve Santo Stefano and Monterchi stations. The stolen goods were recovered, and the minor child was placed in the care of a relative. The arrested individuals, already known to law enforcement, were transferred to prisons in Arezzo and Florence, while investigations continue to verify similar incidents committed elsewhere in Italy.
