Naples – A major "high-impact" operation swept through the Poggioreale neighborhood in the early hours of yesterday. Approximately 100 State Police officers entered the local shantytown in a major effort to prevent and combat widespread lawlessness.

The area, which has long been under the scrutiny of investigators, represents one of the critical points of the eastern suburbs, often the scene of precarious sanitary conditions and a potential logistical base for receiving stolen cars, storing stolen goods, and planning thefts and robberies in the area.

Massive deployment: drones and helicopters from above

The operation involved the combined efforts of various forces from the Naples Police Headquarters : officers from the Flying Squad, supported by the Poggioreale, Montecalvario, Nuovo Palazzo di Giustizia, and Arenella police stations, with the support of the Canine Units, the Forensic Police, the Campania Crime Prevention Unit, and the IV Mobile Unit. Local Police and Firefighters also secured the area, while aerial surveillance was provided at all times by a drone from the General Prevention Office and a helicopter from the VI Flight Unit.

Weapons, copper and burglary tools

During the checks, which led to the identification of numerous individuals and the seizure of 14 vehicles, the officers seized a large quantity of burglary tools and approximately 8 kg of stolen copper cables, with an estimated street value of around 8 euros.

The operation resulted in the arrest of a woman, charged with illegal possession of a firearm, receiving stolen goods, resisting a public official, and aggravated electricity theft. Another individual was charged with illegal possession of a weapon after being caught in possession of a katana.

Electricity theft: 23 reported for illegal connections

The operation also shed light on a dense network of illegal activities related to public utilities. Thanks to the intervention of specialized Enel technicians, the police discovered a series of illegal connections to the city's electricity grid, charging 23 other people with aggravated energy theft. This latest incident confirms the pattern of illegality and violations of regulations that characterizes the area's informal settlements.
