The timely intervention of two police officers prevented the worst for a young woman who fell ill in the water at the La Siesta beach in Gaeta, turning a day of celebration into an emergency rescue.

Two police officers save a young woman from falling ill on the beach in Gaeta during the Ferragosto holiday.
During a mid-August holiday at the La Siesta beach in Gaeta, a young woman from Caserta suddenly fell ill while in the water near Piana di Sant'Agostino. The situation became critical when she lost consciousness in the waves.
Nicola Scala, a prison officer from Aversa serving time at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, was present on the beach with his family and was the first to respond. After bringing the girl to shore, he witnessed her fainting and promptly began rescue operations alongside a fellow officer from the Afragola police station, originally from Lusciano.
The two officers positioned the young woman on the bed and ensured her airway was not obstructed. The operation was continued by doctors on the beach, who then transferred the girl to the Santa Maria Goretti Hospital in Latina for further treatment.
The provincial secretary of the Independent Penitentiary Police Union, Vincenzo Berrini, and the general secretary of SAPPE, Donato Capece, praised the officers' conduct, emphasizing how, even off-duty, their professionalism and sense of duty remain alive and represent an important social value.
