The overturned compactor car
Marano – A morning of chaos and fear ensued on Via San Rocco, the scene of a series of road accidents involving three vehicles and injuring five people.
The first alarm was raised this morning at number 408. For reasons still under investigation, a Lancia Y driven by a 24-year-old man collided with a garbage truck. The impact was so violent that it caused the garbage truck to overturn on the roadway.
Emergency medical services responded immediately, transporting the injured to local hospitals. Three sanitation workers aboard the compactor fared the worst: two of them, aged 41 and 20, were transferred to Pozzuoli Hospital with code orange and code blue injuries. The third sanitation worker, a 48-year-old, and the young man driving the Lancia Y were taken to Giugliano Hospital with code yellow injuries. None of them are believed to be in life-threatening condition.
The situation escalated further moments before law enforcement arrived. A 52-year-old man driving a Fiat 500, approaching the scene of the accident, suddenly lost control of the vehicle, hitting the traffic island and overturning. The man was rescued and taken to Giugliano Hospital with a green code.
Carabinieri officers from the Marano Mobile Radio Unit and local police officers conducted on-site surveys to secure the area and reconstruct the exact circumstances of the two incidents.
