Secondigliano Prison: Inmate worker found with five blocks of hashish on him, arrested

Naples – Half a kilo of hashish on his person, five blocks ready to travel from one ward to another. This ended yet another attempt to smuggle drugs into the Naples-Secondigliano prison, where an inmate worker was stopped and arrested by the Penitentiary Police. The USPP (Universal Prison Service) announced the news.

Half a kilo on me

The man had approximately 500 grams of hashish, divided into five blocks. A considerable quantity, which investigators believe was not intended to remain in his possession. The theory is that the inmate had made himself available to move the drug from one part of the prison to another.

The suspect: internal courier

According to the prosecution, this movement was made possible by his status as a prisoner-worker: a position that granted him greater freedom of movement than other inmates. Hence the suspicion that the man was acting as an internal "courier," taking advantage of the time and space afforded by his job.

The operation and the seizure

"The operation," explained USPP President Giuseppe Moretti and Regional Secretary Ciro Auricchio, "was coordinated by Commander Gianluca Colella and prevented a significant quantity of drugs from circulating within the prison." The USPP expressed its appreciation for the arrest and seizure.

The union then returns to spotlight the working conditions of the Penitentiary Police. "The officers," Moretti and Auricchio recall, "operate in difficult conditions and with staffing levels that are not always adequate, and yet they continue to ensure a fundamental rule of law for the safety of the institution and the community."
