Cell phones and SIM cards ready to be thrown into the Aversa prison: two arrested, material seized

A cell phone attempt to be thrown over the perimeter wall, aimed at the Aversa prison, was intercepted on the morning of September 11th thanks to the timely action of the Penitentiary Police. The operation, according to OSAPP regional secretary Vincenzo Palmieri, resulted in the arrest of two people and the seizure of a significant quantity of material intended, according to the investigation, to be brought into the facility.

The incident began with a report from an officer serving in one of the prison wards, who informed an inspector of the possible presence, outside the prison, of illicit material intended to be smuggled over the perimeter wall. The area identified was Via Alfonso D'Aragona, adjacent to the prison's perimeter and near the internal area designated for inmates' walks.

Upon receiving the report, the unit commander immediately set up a stakeout and conducted a series of clearance checks along the outer perimeter, involving the surveillance inspector and other officers. The patrols then carefully monitored Via Alfonso D'Aragona.

The man with the covered face and the envelope

During the checks, a black Ford Focus was located parked in a parking lot near the Golia Analysis Center, with two people inside. Shortly thereafter, a man with his face covered and a white plastic bag in his hand got out of the passenger seat.

The man allegedly headed toward the prison wall, but the immediate intervention of the Penitentiary Police officers forced him to attempt to escape, abandoning the bag on the ground. The officers, however, managed to catch up with him and subdue him.

According to OSAPP, the man was identified as Achouri Arbi, previously held at the Aversa prison and released several months ago. Shortly thereafter, the driver of the Ford Focus, identified as a citizen of Neapolitan origin, was also arrested.

In the envelope cell phones, SIM cards and chargers

The contents of the envelope confirmed the particularly delicate nature of the operation. Inside, four mini cell phones, five smartphones, eight USB cables, four sockets/chargers, and eight SIM cards were found.
This is material that, if actually intended for clandestine introduction into the institution, could have allowed unauthorized communications with the outside world, making any attempt to deliver it through the perimeter wall particularly delicate.

The arrested man was escorted inside the facility to complete the required formalities, while investigations continued on the vehicle used by the two.

The car check and the two baby carriers

The search of the Ford Focus resulted in the discovery of two fanny packs. According to the union, one was linked to the person stopped by the officers, while the other belonged to the man who fled.

The seized material was then subjected to further investigation by the competent authorities, while investigators will now have to reconstruct the possible destination of the phones and other devices and verify whether the attempted launch was the result of an organized network for the introduction of prohibited material into the prison.

The Prosecutor's Office orders the complaint at large

Around 3:00 PM, the Public Prosecutor on duty was notified. After receiving initial information about the incident, the magistrate ordered the release of the suspect and the necessary further procedures.
All aspects of the affair remain to be clarified, starting with the actual destination of the seized material and any other individuals involved in the operation.

The incident rekindles the spotlight on prison security and, in particular, the need to monitor the areas immediately outside the walls. It is precisely along the perimeter that drug, cell phone, and other material intended for inmates can be attempted.

OSAPP regional secretary Vincenzo Palmieri expressed his appreciation for the officers' intervention, emphasizing how the Penitentiary Police's prompt action allowed them to intercept the attempt, recover the envelope, and detain one of the individuals involved, while the other was subsequently arrested.

For the union, the incident also represents a reminder of the need to ensure that staff members have adequate tools and operating conditions to counter attempts to smuggle phones and narcotics into institutions.

The case remains under investigation by the investigating authorities, who will reconstruct the entire incident and determine any liability. The people involved are naturally presumed innocent until a final verdict is reached.
