General practitioners on strike on September 15th and 16th

Contracted general practitioners will protest on September 15 and 16, 2026, against the partial agreement on Community Houses signed on June 23, 2026. In Naples, the Italian Doctors' Union (SMI) has organized a demonstration for September 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the RAI headquarters on Via Guglielmo Marconi 9, in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood.

The strike stems from a series of protests regarding the new structure of the Community Houses. Among the reasons for the strike are the rejection of the established working hours for doctors, opposition to the establishment of a single role in general medicine, and the demand to maintain a dual channel with voluntary access to dependency care.

Furthermore, doctors are calling for the establishment of a university specialization school in General Medicine, the reintroduction of the Service Medicine Area, an increase in 118 emergency medical services staff, and the recognition of adequate protections such as accident and maternity benefits.

Giovanni Senese, Campania Regional Secretary of the SMI, has launched an appeal to all doctors in Campania, both registered and unregistered, for united action to defend the medical profession and citizens' right to health. The union is committed to continuing to protect the professional dignity and working conditions of doctors.
