Acerra: Motorcyclist loses control of motorcycle on highway 162, dies

Another road fatality has occurred in the Naples area. A motorcyclist died this afternoon after losing control of his vehicle on the 162dir state road "del Centro Direzionale" (Center of Directions), heading toward Acerra. The impact with the asphalt was extremely violent: there was nothing that could be done for the man. Emergency medical services responded to the scene but were only able to confirm his death.

The accident occurred around 2:00 PM, at kilometer marker 18,400, in the municipality of Acerra. According to initial reports, the victim was riding his motorcycle and was heading from Naples toward the Vesuvian town when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle.

The state road was temporarily closed to allow for investigation and removal of the damaged vehicle. Traffic towards Acerra has been diverted along the SS162NC "Asse Mediano." Law enforcement is investigating whether other vehicles were involved, a circumstance currently considered unlikely.

Today's accident is just the latest in a long string of fatal accidents that have hit Naples and its province in recent weeks. On Sunday, September 20, a 22-year-old man, Roberto Ancona of San Cipriano d'Aversa, died on the SS7 quater (Domiziana) highway near Varcaturo, a hamlet of Giugliano. The young man was traveling in a Volkswagen Golf with a 20-year-old friend when the car crashed into the guardrail. He got out of the vehicle to report the accident to other vehicles, but was struck and killed by a passing car.

The following day, Monday, September 21, a 27-year-old Indian cyclist died on Via Mario Palermo, in Ponticelli, on the eastern outskirts of Naples. The man was hit by a car while riding his bicycle; the driver stopped to provide assistance, but there was nothing that could be done for the young man. A few days earlier, on September 9, a 17-year-old student had died at Cardarelli Hospital, seriously injured after being hit at a pedestrian crossing on Corso Secondigliano.

In June, another motorcyclist, Salvatore Allocca, 54, died in Saviano after crashing into a lamppost on Via Sant'Erasmo. Around the same time, on Via Caracciolo in Naples, a 60-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a 29-year-old man on a scooter, without a license or insurance, who fled when the Carabinieri stopped him. In May, Gaetano Esposito, 27, died at the Cardarelli Hospital after five days of agony in intensive care, following a motorcycle accident in Afragola.

The numbers, after all, tell a silent tale. In the municipality of Naples alone, 2.670 accidents were recorded in 2025, resulting in 27 deaths and 3.330 injuries. In Campania, there were 11.392 accidents, resulting in 244 fatalities. Although slightly down on the previous year's death toll, it remains a tragic figure. And the news reports of recent weeks continue to update this tragic countdown day after day.
