Casalnuovo opens a new station on the Naples-Cancello line, with 63 regional trains per day.

As of today, Casalnuovo has a new gateway to the Campania regional railway system. The new station built on the Naples-Cancello section of the Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity line has entered service. This infrastructure will significantly transform the region's rail connections and strengthen the integration between regional transport and the new high-speed/high-capacity network.

The station, built entirely in a tunnel by the Nacav Consortium, led by Webuild on behalf of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, a company of the FS Group, replaces the previous Casalnuovo station. The project is part of the Naples-Cancello lot, worth a total of €1,1 billion, and is part of the new railway infrastructure connecting Naples with Bari.

Over 49 seats on weekdays

The most immediate information concerns rail services. On weekdays, a total of 63 Trenitalia regional trains will stop at the new Casalnuovo station. These include connections on the Naples-Caserta via Cancello, Naples-Vairano-Cassino, and Naples Campi Flegrei-Caserta-Capua routes.

The overall capacity exceeds 49 seats on weekdays, while 26 connections are scheduled on holidays, for a total of approximately 19 seats. These numbers demonstrate the importance the new station will have, especially for commuters, students, and workers who use rail transport every day to reach Naples, Caserta, and other centers served by regional lines.

The third station on the Cancello variant

Casalnuovo is the third station opened on the Cancello bypass, after Naples-Afragola and Acerra. The new section of the Naples-Bari route opened to rail traffic on July 1st, marking a further step in the construction of the major rail link between the Campania capital and Puglia.

In this new structure, the Naples Afragola station plays a key role, providing direct connections between the regional line, the national high-speed network, and the new Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity route. This connection also benefits regional mobility, particularly for passengers traveling to Caserta and along the main routes in Campania.

Fifty-five kilometers of new line operational

With the completion of the Naples-Cancello section, the kilometers of new high-speed/high-capacity line already in operation along the Naples-Bari route rise to 55. The goal of the project is not only to increase service and improve connections, but also to increase the overall capacity of the network and make rail service more regular.

Another important step is the decommissioning of the historic Naples-Cancello line, replaced by the new infrastructure. At the same time, the 12 level crossings along the route have been removed, with expected benefits for safety and traffic flow.

The opening of the new Casalnuovo station is therefore part of a broader infrastructure project: not simply replacing the old station, but rather a new rail mobility structure in the area east of Naples, designed to more efficiently connect the area with the regional system and the future Naples-Bari high-speed/high-capacity line.
