Palermo – Thirteen young people, aged between 18 and 20, have been reported by the Palermo Maritime Border Police for aggravated brawling. The incident occurred last week aboard a cruise ship during the night crossing between Naples and Palermo.
The intervention was triggered by a report from the ship's crew, who alerted the Sicilian capital's police department regarding a violent fight between a large group of youths. Upon the ship's arrival in port, officers began their investigation: by reviewing and cross-referencing footage from the ship's video surveillance systems, they were able to reconstruct the events and identify all 13 individuals involved.
According to investigations, the clash involved two groups of cruise passengers: the first group consisted of young men from Salento who had boarded in Civitavecchia, the second of young Sicilians who had boarded in Palermo. The incident apparently occurred near the ship's nightclub for trivial reasons, presumably over a joke directed at a Sicilian girl that a young man from the Salento group did not appreciate.
Words quickly escalated to physical violence, with tables, chairs, and other furniture being used. The brawl then moved down the corridors and into the elevator area, where the situation escalated. During this phase, according to the reconstruction, some of the suspects continued to kick a young man lying unconscious on the ground in the head, before the fight was isolated.
The injured man was temporarily hospitalized for medical checks, which ruled out any serious injuries. Following the investigation, the thirteen young men were reported to the Palermo Prosecutor's Office.
