There were moments of great concern late Monday morning in Nola, where a fire broke out in the rear section of a school. Officers from the nearby Highway Police station noticed the thick cloud of smoke and the first flames. Aware of the presence of numerous minors and staff inside the building, they immediately mobilized to prevent further damage.

Evacuation to protect the little ones

Without hesitation, an officer headed to the school entrance with a fire extinguisher. Inside, officers coordinated the evacuation plan with the teachers, giving absolute priority to the ground-floor classrooms, which were most at risk from the fire. Quickly and orderly, 43 children between the ages of one and five and nine workers (teachers and school staff) were led outside and gathered in a safe area, sheltered from smoke and flames.

Intervention with fire extinguishers near the plants

While the building was secured, containment measures were implemented. One officer operated from within the school grounds, while a colleague intervened simultaneously from the detachment headquarters, directing a second fire extinguisher through the adjacent fence. Their effective action prevented the flames from reaching a nearby gas boiler, an electrical panel, and the air conditioning motors, averting a potential disaster.

No injuries and the area has been cleared

The timely arrival of the Fire Department allowed the cleanup and safety assessment of the area to be completed. Initial investigations indicated that the fire began with a plastic sheet draped over a metal bench, then spread to some stools. No one present suffered injuries or inhalation injuries, transforming a potential tragedy into a demonstration of preparedness and coordination.
