Hell on the A1, a truck crash kills a 44-year-old Campania man. Traffic is paralyzed for 15 kilometers.

Tragedy on the Autostrada del Sole. A 44-year-old truck driver from Campania died following a violent collision involving a refrigerated truck and a car transporter on the northbound carriageway of the A1 motorway, between Attigliano and Orvieto.

The collision occurred while the two vehicles were traveling toward Florence. There was nothing that could be done for the driver of the refrigerated truck. The Viterbo firefighters deployed several vehicles to extract the body from the vehicle, while emergency services personnel and Autostrade per l'Italia operators also arrived on the scene.

The accident is still being investigated by the Orvieto Highway Police, who are investigating the cause and exact sequence of the crash. The impact on traffic has been severe. Following the collision, a tailback formed approximately 15 kilometers long, initially increasing. Traffic was temporarily affected by the accident and emergency services, with traffic subsequently returning to flow in both directions in the affected section and the tailback gradually decreasing.

During the operation, Autostrade per l'Italia also distributed water to motorists stuck in traffic. Those traveling toward Florence were advised to exit at Orte and use the alternative route via the Orte-Viterbo highway, the Cassia road toward Montefiascone, and provincial road 71 toward Orvieto, before rejoining the A1.

For longer journeys, the advice was to leave the motorway at Orte, continue on the E45 towards Perugia and then on the Bettolle-Siena link road, returning to the A1 from the Valdichiana station.

Rescue workers and Autostrade per l'Italia staff worked on the scene for hours, while Highway Police officers began investigating the tragedy.
