A1 Highway Patrol: Money and jewelry hidden in cars: Four Campanians reported, thousands of euros worth of stolen goods recovered.

Two checks along the A1 highway, two suspects, and a haul of €77 in cash and numerous jewels. Four Italian citizens residing in Campania were reported at large to the Bologna Prosecutor's Office for conspiracy to receive stolen goods.

The first intervention took place at the Cantagallo Ovest service area, where a traffic police patrol stopped an SUV after noticing that the driver and passenger were traveling without seat belts.

During the document check, the two men, a 62-year-old and a 29-year-old from the province of Naples, were reportedly uncooperative and agitated. The officers therefore decided to investigate further.

"A large amount of cash was found in a bag placed behind a seat," the Bologna Police Headquarters reported. Given the lack of a plausible explanation for the source of the cash, the two were taken to the Highway Police Sub-section offices.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed additional cash and valuables hidden in the passenger compartment. A total of "€77.000, two rings, and a necklace" were recovered, which, according to investigations, were stolen from an elderly woman in the province of Treviso using the "false Carabiniere" technique. The stolen goods will be returned to the victim.

The second incident also occurred on the A1. A patrol noticed a car with two people inside who were not wearing seatbelts. The vehicle was intercepted near the Sasso Marconi toll booth and, due to traffic conditions, safely stopped at the Badia toll booth.

A check of their documents revealed a significant police record. The two occupants, a 58-year-old and a 37-year-old from the province of Salerno, also failed to provide any plausible explanations for the reason for their trip.

The officers accompanied them to the subsection for further checks. In the spare tire compartment, they found several cellophane bags containing jewelry and watches. The valuables were seized because the two men were unable to justify their possession.

Database searches have confirmed that the two had been active in the province of Modena, specifically in the municipalities of Modena, Formigine, Maranello, and Sassuolo. Investigations are now underway to identify any victims of the thefts or scams.

The 75 seized jewels and watches were "photographed and catalogued" to bring to the attention of people who may have been the victims of theft or fraud in recent days.
