Naples State Archives: Over €600 in damages to the public treasury, according to a report.

Over €600 in potential financial damages related to the management of the monumental spaces of the State Archives of Naples. This is the hypothesis that emerged from an accounting investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Naples together with officials from the General Directorate of Archives of the Ministry of Culture, under the coordination of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors for Campania.

The investigations stemmed from reports in December 2024 of a lavish wedding party held inside the historic complex. The event sparked controversy due to the presence of DJ sets, loud music, and smoke machines. Subsequent inspections by ministerial authorities ruled out any damage to the archival and artistic heritage housed within the halls.

That incident sparked broader investigations into the granting of the institute's premises. Investigators scrutinized the events hosted in the State Archives between early 2021 and late 2024.

According to the investigation, numerous irregularities emerged in the management of the spaces, particularly with respect to industry regulations and ministerial and institute fee schedules. In several cases, the spaces were provided free of charge or for fees deemed inappropriate for commercial, profit-making, or exclusively private initiatives.

Among the events under scrutiny were fashion shows, filming for television and film productions, corporate meetings, and conferences. According to the Court of Auditors, the concessions were authorized by the Archives' management without complying with the requirements set forth in the fees and the institutional purposes of the facility.

Following its investigations, the Regional Prosecutor's Office estimated the alleged financial damage at over €600, linking it to the lost revenues that would have resulted from managing the concessions.

A request for comment was then sent to the then-top management of the State Archives of Naples. The recipient will have 45 days to submit their observations and clarify their position regarding the objections.

The Prosecutor's Office itself clarifies that, at this stage, this is a preliminary and provisional proceeding. The charges therefore do not amount to a final sentence or conviction and will have to be assessed during the proceedings, in full compliance with the principle of innocence.
