Naples – The weather pattern is changing again in Campania. Today, Friday, September 18, 2026, the region faces a day of clouds, showers, and thunderstorms, with locally severe weather conditions expected.

The Campania Region's Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow weather alert, valid until noon today, covering the entire region. The bulletin warns of the possibility of sudden showers and thunderstorms, including severe ones, with particular attention to the Campanian Plain, Naples, the islands, the Vesuvius area, the Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, the Sarno Mountains, and the Picentini Mountains.

Naples, thunderstorms in the early hours

In the capital, the sky is very cloudy, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the morning hours. Forecasts from the Parthenope University Weather Observatory indicate severe rainfall for Naples during the night and early morning, with precipitation gradually tapering off from midday.

The hourly forecast also shows an unstable phase between the morning and late morning: rain is expected around 10:00 a.m., while the risk of thunderstorms persists at 11:00 a.m. The weather should improve thereafter.

Temperatures in the capital will remain relatively mild, with lows ranging from 22-23 degrees Celsius to highs of 26-27 degrees Celsius. More clearings are expected in the afternoon.

Campania, even intense phenomena

The bad weather won't be limited to Naples. According to regional forecasts, rain is likely in the morning, especially along the Tyrrhenian coast and in the northern areas. In the afternoon, unstable conditions could affect the inland and Apennine areas, with possible showers and thunderstorms. Gradual improvement is expected by the evening.

Indicatively, maximum temperatures will reach 26-28 degrees in various locations: around 27°C in Naples, 26°C in Avellino and Salerno, up to 28°C in Caserta and Benevento.

Warning: Watch out for wind, hail, and lightning

The situation requires caution, especially in areas where thunderstorms could develop rapidly. The Civil Protection Department warns of the possibility of hailstorms, strong winds, and lightning strikes, as well as hydrogeological phenomena such as flooding and water flow on roads.

Particular attention is also required in areas already affected by forest fires: the terrain may be more vulnerable, with a possible risk of landslides and falling rocks.

It gets better in the afternoon

The outlook for the coming hours is still for a gradual improvement. In Naples, after the more unstable morning, clearings and a gradual reduction in cloud cover are expected. Over the rest of Campania, the weather is also expected to decrease in intensity towards the evening, although some variability remains in inland areas.

In short: umbrellas should be handy in the early hours of the day, especially in Naples, the Vesuvius area, the coast, and areas most exposed to thunderstorms. The situation should gradually improve from the afternoon, with temperatures still mild but lower than on the hottest days.
