Naples returns to celebrate its musical roots with the 24th edition of "La Notte della Tammorra," scheduled for September 11th and 12th in the historic Piazza Mercato. The festival, promoted and funded by the City of Naples as part of the "Naples City of Music" project, will close the "Summer in Naples 2026" program.
This year's edition will be dedicated in particular to Roberto De Simone, a key figure in Neapolitan musical culture. The artistic director once again is Carlo Faiello, a musician and researcher who shared De Simone's experience with the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare and participated in operas such as "La gatta Cenerentola."
Founded in 2001 and inspired by the ancient festival of Comiziano, "La Notte della Tammorra" revives the tradition of ancient gatherings in Campania Felix, linked to earth cults, pilgrimages, and the solstice. Over the years, this event has become one of the main events dedicated to folk music in Southern Italy.
The stage will feature established artists and traditional performers. Among the performers are Enzo Gragnaniello, Lina Sastri, Margherita Abita, vocalist of the Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra, Flo, Tony Esposito, Maurizio Capone, and Ars Nova Napoli with Biagio De Prisco, as well as the fishing boats of Giugliano, "'O Lione," Terzigno, and Monti Lattari.
There will also be ample space for the diverse styles of Southern Italian folk music, with tarantellas from Montemarano, Cilento, Gargano, and Carpino. The program will also feature performances by Fiorenza Calogero, Simona Boo, Irene Scarpato of Suonno d'ajere, Marianita Carfora, Greg Rega, Denise Di Maria, Tony Cercola, Gennaro Tesone of Almamegretta, and Lavinia Mancusi.
Two evenings designed to combine memory and modernity, bringing the sounds, dances, and repertoire of Campania's popular culture back to the heart of Naples through an event that, since 2001, has made tradition its hallmark.
