Three anti-mafia bans issued by the Prefect of Naples target businesses in the waste, bar, and restaurant sectors.

Naples – Three new anti-mafia measures have been adopted by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, as part of his efforts to prevent and combat organized crime's attempts to infiltrate the province's economic fabric.

The measures affected a number of businesses operating in various sectors of the local economy. The companies involved are headquartered in the municipalities of Mugnano di Napoli, Arzano, Crispano, and Naples and operate in sectors including waste collection, bar and restaurant management, and other economic activities.

The Prefecture's prevention activities

The measures were taken following an investigative and information-gathering process aimed at verifying the presence of elements indicative of a possible risk of influence by organized crime.

The anti-mafia ban falls within the scope of administrative prevention tools provided for by law and aims to prevent companies exposed to the risk of infiltration from operating in public administration and accessing certain forms of support or economic relations with the public sector.

In the case of the three measures adopted in Naples, the investigations focused on the positions of individual companies through the examination of information acquired by the competent bodies. The aim of the prefect's action is to intervene in a preventative phase, before any forms of influence can consolidate within economic activities.

Waste and catering, particularly exposed sectors

The presence among the companies involved of activities related to waste management and the provision of food and beverages draws attention to economic sectors in which the prevention of infiltration is a particularly important concern.

Economic activity, especially in sectors characterized by capital movements, contracts, subcontracting, services, and relationships with public administration, is one of the areas on which institutions focus their monitoring efforts.

Bans do not constitute a determination of criminal liability on the part of the economic operators concerned, but rather a preventive tool aimed at protecting the market and preventing interests attributable to organized crime from influencing business activities.
