A car chase between Tuscany and Umbria: a 45-year-old man arrested in Chiusi for alleged fraud against the elderly.
A police operation conducted in Tuscany and Umbria led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man, a resident of Naples, in Chiusi, in the province of Siena. He is charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a public official and is believed to have committed one or more scams targeting elderly people. The investigation was launched after a report of an alleged scam targeting an elderly woman living in the Grosseto area: the suspects reportedly fled in the direction of the Valdichiana Senese.
The incident had an operational context: a police officer from the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme police station, though off duty, alerted the operations room to report the incident. A patrol was dispatched and intercepted a reported car on the border between Tuscany and Umbria. The driver accelerated, sparking a chase that lasted several kilometers and ended in the Fabro area of Umbria (Terni). After an initial attempt to stop the driver, the man fled, ramming the police car and causing minor injuries to several officers.
The crews then caught up with him and stopped him after a few hundred meters. Taken to the police station, the 45-year-old was subjected to further investigation. During a search of the surrounding countryside, investigators recovered a bag containing approximately €5.000 in cash and over 160 gold jewels, believed to be possible scam loot.
The investigation continues to identify any victims and reconstruct the incidents attributed to the man. The person being investigated has been transferred to the Terni prison, where he is being held by the judicial authorities.
