Naples – He presented himself as a bank consultant, offering a seemingly reassuring proposal: a few transactions needed to "safeguard" his bank account. In reality, it was a scam. A 32-year-old man was reported at large by the Carabinieri in Naples; he is accused of fraud and computer fraud. The victim, a 76-year-old, was tricked into allowing him to make transactions through his online bank.
According to the reconstruction, the fake consultant managed to gain the elderly man's trust and obtain authorization for the transactions. Shortly thereafter, four instant transfers were made totaling 30 euros. Only later did the victim realize he had been defrauded.
The 76-year-old immediately contacted the Carabinieri at the Scampia station. The officers gathered all the relevant information and began their investigation, reconstructing the movements of the money and following the traces left by the banking transactions.
The investigations allowed them to identify the 32-year-old and freeze his bank account. The Carabinieri were thus able to recover €27 of the stolen funds. The money was returned to the 76-year-old. The 32-year-old will now face charges of fraud and computer fraud.
