Matteo Politano
Matteo Politano isn't looking for excuses after Napoli's 3-1 defeat to Villarreal. In the 3-1 defeat in Spain, the error on the back pass that led to Mikautadze's equalizer weighed heavily on the game. After the match, the Italian winger chose to take responsibility and apologize to his teammates and fans.
"I'm sorry for the mistake I made. I know I made a difficult situation after a game that started well. I apologized to my teammates and fans," Politano told Sky Sport.
Napoli took the lead in the eighth minute through Rrahmani, but in the 23rd minute, the winger's misplaced back pass allowed Mikautadze to equalize with an empty net. Three minutes later, Mouriño's goal completed Villarreal's comeback, before Oluwaseyi's second-half strike completed the 3-1 victory.
Politano also highlighted the Azzurri's missed opportunities in the first half. "It's disappointing we couldn't turn things around; we had big chances in the first half. In the second half, we got stretched, and when that happens, it gets tough," he explained.
The player's analysis focuses primarily on the difficulties that emerged after half-time, when Napoli failed to find the composure needed to get back into the match.
"We made a lot of bad decisions in the second half; they were more of a team than us. We need to find the spirit to defend as a team and then get going again," added the winger.
