Traffic in Naples
Naples – Fuel prices and city traffic are once again at the center of institutional discussions with taxi drivers. Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, at 4:00 PM, all the industry's trade unions have been convened by the Prefect of Naples to resume discussions on the critical issues that have plagued the sector for months, grappling with rising operating costs and the daily challenges of urban traffic.
The meeting represents a new step in the process initiated in July with the Campania Region and the City of Naples, with the aim of identifying interventions capable of responding to the sector's needs. This issue concerns not only non-scheduled public transport operators, but also the organization of urban mobility, in a context where traffic and fuel costs directly impact work hours and the economic sustainability of operations.
The meeting at the Prefecture follows the October 6 meeting with city councilors Antonio De Iesu and Edoardo Cosenza. On that occasion, the dialogue continued regarding the issues raised by taxi drivers' representatives, who are calling on the institutions to move beyond discussions to concrete action.
The crux of the matter is a sector reporting growing pressure on operating costs, exacerbated by the difficulties of Naples' road system. This combination, according to the unions, risks compromising the economic sustainability of the sector and necessitates identifying appropriate measures to address the reported critical issues.
Ahead of tomorrow's meeting, the unions reiterate the need for institutional discussions to produce clear commitments and tangible actions. The goal is to ensure the issues raised are not left unanswered, while operators continue to contend with rising fuel prices and the impact of city traffic on their daily operations.
Signing the statement are SITAN/ATN, UNIMPRESA, FEDERTAXI/CISAL, FAST/CONFSAL Taxi Napoli, and the Comitato Tassisti di Base (Basic Taxi Committee). The organizations are calling for institutional involvement and accountability, urging concrete solutions to problems that, they argue, directly impact the economic viability of the service.
Attention now turns to the meeting at the Prefecture, from which the category expects operational guidance and a path to translate the requests made in recent months into effective responses.
