Allegri: "We need points. Villarreal? Always difficult."

Get points, now. Massimiliano Allegri has clear ideas about the challenges of tomorrow's trip to Villarreal, the second matchday of the Champions League. "We have to try to get points. It won't be easy against a team that also played a good game against Real on Saturday and is always difficult to face, just as it's always difficult to play every Champions League match," explained the coach.

Allegri knows Napoli needs to move up the table, and the match against Frosinone showed encouraging signs, including the return of a three-man defense. But the coach doesn't want to make the formations a one-off: "You know I consider this whole formation thing reductive. For me, even if I don't necessarily agree, it's just barroom talk. We have a squad of excellent players, some are returning but need time to regain their fitness. From Wednesday, we'll have Anguissa, Olivera, and Allison himself: with a little patience, we need to get back on track."

Regarding the lineup, McTominay returned against Frosinone and could start tomorrow. "It's possible, but I haven't decided on the starting eleven yet. We'll see how the players are tomorrow morning," he added. The Azzurri coach isn't keen on the idea of a "standard lineup": "What's valid today in football won't apply tomorrow, also because routines bother me and because it always depends on the situation. Depending on who I have available and the individual characteristics, I'll always try to field the best possible lineup with the players in their most suitable roles."

It's also possible we'll see De Bruyne and McTominay together. "Good players need to play together, but it always depends on the moment. Scott hasn't played in two months, Kevin arrived in early August. Saying they always need to play together is wrong: always doesn't exist, it's an understatement, otherwise it would be easy," Allegri concluded.
