The seized quarry
A 260-square-meter limestone quarry in Casamarciano, near Naples, was seized after Carabinieri inspections confirmed that mining continued despite administrative measures affecting the site.
The operation was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Group's Information Unit, together with the military of the Tufino Station and personnel from the regional office "Mines, Peat Bogs and Geothermal Resources".
The investigation focused on a quarry intended for the extraction and marketing of marble, entrusted to a company that won the tender to manage the municipal site.
The quarry had been subject to an anti-mafia ban issued by the Prefecture of Avellino. This measure was accompanied by the revocation of the Single Environmental Authorization (AUA) issued by the Municipality of Casamarciano.
Despite the measures taken, during the inspection, the military found that the extraction operations were continuing. This prompted law enforcement intervention and the entire area was sealed off.
In addition to the quarry, which covers approximately 260 square meters, ten vehicles used in the site's activities, including excavators and trucks, were seized.
The legal representative of the company that won the tender has been charged. The company's mining permit has also been revoked.
The intervention is part of the ongoing monitoring of mining operations and compliance with administrative measures adopted to protect legality and the environment.
