Pungent and unpleasant odors, repeatedly reported by residents, prompted Carabinieri police to conduct checks in Valle di Maddaloni, in the Caserta province. The investigations uncovered waste and burned material on a farm. The area was seized, and the owner, a 65-year-old local man, was reported.
The operation began yesterday afternoon, October 6th, as part of the measures implemented to combat abandonment, uncontrolled dumping, and illegal waste disposal. Officers from the Maddaloni Valley Station, along with the head of the municipal Technical Office, conducted an inspection of a property belonging to the 65-year-old.
During the inspection, the residues of two piles of olive tree clippings and prunings were identified over an area of approximately 30 square meters, as well as various unidentified burnt materials.
Following the investigation, the area was placed under criminal seizure and placed in judicial custody of the landowner. The 65-year-old was reported to the judicial authorities at large because, under the current investigation, he was suspected of illegal waste burning.
The Carabinieri's activity is part of a campaign to monitor behaviors that could cause environmental damage and public health risks, with particular attention to the improper management of materials and illegal fires. The proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase. The suspect's liability will be determined by a final judgment.
