Naples, 'V for Vendetta' masks and chains blockade the school: the occupation of the Alberti High School has been stopped.

Naples – A tense morning unfolded at the Giovan Battista Alberti State High School on Via Pigna, in the Vomero neighborhood. Several dozen students attempted to occupy the school in the early hours, ordering school staff to leave and abandon the building. This was a coordinated action to seize control of the building and prevent classes from proceeding as planned.

The motivations and the paradox of the protest

The raid appears to be based on a clear stance against the continuation of the building's infrastructure work, a crucial project managed by the Metropolitan City of Naples, which owns the property. A stark paradox: the attempt to protect and assert the right to a safe and functional school has risked paralyzing the very educational activity the protesters claimed to be defending.

Covered faces and masks from V for Vendetta

Adding to the tension of the protests was the way some young people presented themselves: their faces obscured by neck warmers, balaclavas, and the famous Guy Fawkes masks, made a global symbol by the comic book and film V for Vendetta. Protesters attempted to chain the entrance gate shut, preventing teachers and students from entering.

The intervention of the Carabinieri and the seizures

The action, however, was short-lived. The timely intervention of the Carabinieri of the Vomero Mobile Radio Unit (PMZ) allowed the demonstration to be stopped in its tracks and security restored. The officers identified several attendees and seized the materials used in the raid: in addition to chains and masks, a long banner reading "Alberti Occupied – No CPR – Kaos" was also seized. The situation inside and outside the facility gradually returned to normal.
