Pisano Foundries
Layoffs effective November 1st and an appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) against the Campania Region. This, according to the CGIL, is what the owners of Fonderie Pisano confirmed during the meeting on the dispute held today at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy in Rome. The union deems it unacceptable that the employees' future employment remains tied to the dispute between the company and the authorities.
"During today's meeting at Mimit, the owners of Fonderie Pisano confirmed what had been announced in the past few hours: their appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) against the Campania Region and their intention to lay off the workers starting November 1st," said Raffaele Paudice of the CGIL Naples and Campania secretariat.
"We find all of this unacceptable: workers cannot be held hostage by a dispute, first administrative and then judicial, between the company and the institutions," added the union representative.
For the CGIL, the affair represents the culmination of years of missed investments and decisions left without a shared solution. "Once again, they are burdened with the burden of years of missed investments, of decisions no one wants to take responsibility for, of a conflict between the environment and labor that could and should have been avoided by timely intervention," Paudice emphasized.
The union also warns against fueling a conflict between employment and environmental protection. "We will not accept yet another conflict between citizens and workers while the steel industry in Campania is dying," it warned.
The dispute isn't limited to the Salerno plant. The CGIL is also demanding answers for the Luogosano workers, urging a regional strategy capable of offering concrete prospects to both plants.
"We ask the Region, the councilors involved, and especially President Roberto Fico, that at the next meeting, already scheduled for October 21st at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, the Region arrive with a clear and shared vision for saving the jobs of the workers at the Salerno site and finally providing concrete prospects for those at Luogosano, without further delays and with the utmost clarity," Paudice stated.
The next meeting at the Mimit will therefore represent another decisive step in the dispute. The union is demanding specific commitments and solutions that can prevent layoffs and guarantee a future for the employees involved. "Time is running out: we want answers," concluded the CGIL representative.
