In the image, a detail related to the story.
Two seized areas, a clandestine workshop for dismantling stolen vehicles, and a warehouse containing hundreds of cars and waste. These are the results of two separate operations by the Naples Metropolitan Police in the Giugliano in Campania and Volla areas, coordinated by Commander Lucia Rea.
In Giugliano, in the Casacelle area, NISA Group officers seized two areas for urban planning and environmental violations and for alleged crimes related to the theft and recycling of motor vehicles.
The first, registered in the land registry as agricultural land, had been transformed into a commercial space for the display and sale of cars, without the necessary change of intended use.
But it was during checks in the rear area that officers discovered an operation deemed even more serious. In an adjacent lot, fenced and screened with aluminum panels, a clandestine workshop had been set up, used to store and dismantle stolen cars.
According to the Metropolitan Police, electronic control units were tampered with inside the facility and vehicles were dismantled, then sold on the black market for spare parts.
During the inspection, an Audi RS3, estimated to be worth between €65 and €70, was also seized, having been found stolen. The officers also found numerous counterfeit license plates, technical tools, and burglary equipment suitable for breaking into and reprogramming vehicles' electronics, as well as work clothing and protective equipment.
Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the alleged criminal network and reconstruct the destination of the components obtained from dismantling the cars.
In Volla, the seizure affected an area of approximately 6.500 square meters located under the viaduct of the SP1 (Circumvallazione esterna di Napoli) highway. Inside the property, 230 cars, presumably vintage, were found, approximately half of which had been dismantled and were clearly abandoned.
During the operation, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, two vessels, and three containers containing materials derived from automotive spare parts were also identified. The materials were found to have been deposited directly on the ground, without the management procedures and environmental precautions required by law.
The person who was illegally managing the area was reported to the judicial authorities for the criminal charges set forth in the Consolidated Environmental Act, relating to the management and storage of the identified waste.
The two operations brought to light different situations, but they both share the presence of illegal activities, vehicles, and materials handled illegally. The Metropolitan Police are continuing their investigations to further clarify the origin of the cars, the destination of the parts, and any potential responsibilities.
