Illegal work and grueling shifts: Two factories in San Giuseppe and Angri seized.

Two textile companies have been placed under preventive seizure as part of an investigation into unlawful work and employee employment conditions. The seizure was carried out today by the Carabinieri of the Naples Labor Protection Group, pursuant to an order issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Nocera Inferiore, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The seals were released on two factories, one located in Angri, in the Salerno area, and the other in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, in the Naples area. At the same time, the entire share capital of one of the companies involved was placed under preventive seizure.

The investigation started in March

The investigation began last March and has allowed investigators to reconstruct, according to the prosecution's hypothesis, the organization of work within the two factories.

During the investigations, a total of 102 workers were identified. Some of them were employed without proper contracts, while among the workers inspected, positions involving foreigners found to be without the necessary residence permits were also identified.

The investigations also highlighted a series of critical issues related to the way work activities were organised.

Heavy shifts and safety violations

According to investigators, some employees were subjected to particularly arduous shifts, with working conditions deemed to be non-compliant with regulations.

The investigation also uncovered allegations regarding wages, which were deemed disproportionate to the work performed, and alleged violations of workplace health and safety regulations.

A situation which, according to the Prosecutor's Office, would have highlighted the details of the crimes the suspects are accused of.

The disputed charges

The criminal charges include illicit labor brokerage and exploitation, the employment of foreign workers without a residence permit, and the willful failure to take precautions against workplace accidents.

The precautionary seizure was ordered to prevent, as stated in the order, the continuation of the conduct under investigation and also with a view to the possible confiscation of the assets.

The investigation therefore remains in the preliminary investigation phase and the charges will have to be evaluated in the subsequent phases of the proceedings, respecting the presumption of innocence.
