In the image, a detail related to the story.
For one day, the courtyard of Palazzo Melzi, home to the Department of Law at the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli" in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, was transformed into a crime scene. Not a real case, but a simulated investigation organized by the Carabinieri to offer students a hands-on experience of the work of investigators.
The initiative took place as part of Freshmen's Day 2026, dedicated to welcoming new students. It was an experience that combined academic training and practical experience, demonstrating how analyzing evidence and strictly adhering to procedures are essential to reconstructing the events.
A delegation from the force participated, led by the provincial commander of the Carabinieri of Caserta, Colonel Federico Scarabello, supported by officers and specialized personnel.
The students were able to follow the various stages of the investigation, from searching for traces to collecting evidence. The demonstration provided a close-up look at the methodologies used in investigations and a clear understanding of the importance of technical precision, attention to detail, and proper preservation of evidence.
The investigative activities were illustrated by Lieutenant Colonel Melissa Sipala, commander of the Caserta Carabinieri Operations Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Gianluca Galiotta, head of the Investigative Unit, and Lieutenant Antonio De Luca, commander of the Surveys section of the same Unit.
The initiative thus transformed a university welcome day into a hands-on learning opportunity, introducing freshmen to investigative techniques and the role of scientific methodology and method in the search for truth.
