In 2018, almost 45% of environmental crimes recorded in all of Italy, equal to 12.597, were concentrated in the four regions with traditional mafia presence (Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily). This is according to the report 'Ecomafia 2019. The stories and numbers of environmental crime in Italy', produced by Legambiente and presented this morning to the Senate. This year too, it is stated, Campania dominates the regional ranking of environmental crimes with 3.862 crimes (14,4% of the national total), followed by Calabria (3.240) - which still recorded the highest number of arrests, 35 -, Puglia (2.854) and Sicily (2.641). Tuscany is, after Lazio which recorded just over 2.000 crimes, the second region in Central Italy in terms of number of crimes (1.836), followed by Lombardy, in seventh place nationally. The province with the highest number of violations is confirmed as Naples (1.360), followed by Rome (1.037), Bari (711), Palermo (671) and Avellino (667). Campania also dominates the regional ranking of illegalities in the cement cycle with 1.169 violations, ahead of Calabria (789), Puglia (730), Lazio (514) and Sicily (480). At the provincial level, Avellino and Naples lead the ranking with 408 and 317 violations detected respectively.
