Migrants from Serbia to Naples, they were hidden in a truck with a half-liter bottle of water and a packet of biscuits. Five were saved
This is what five migrants from Afghanistan had at their disposal when they were crammed into a semi-trailer intercepted by the Naples traffic police around midnight yesterday in the San Nicola Sud service area of the A/1 motorway.
The truck had Macedonian license plates and of the five foreign citizens found, four are minors and the other is only 21 years old. The highway police were carrying out checks within the area because numerous thefts of industrial vehicles stopped for the night have been recorded; and the officers thus noticed movements of the closing tarpaulin of a semi-trailer, even though it was stopped at the time.
Also seeing a large cut on the top of the tarpaulin, the traffic personnel opened the doors of the semi-trailer, discovering a load of tires and four hidden boys. Made to get off the truck, they received first aid.
Speaking exclusively in their own language, they made it clear that a fifth boy had jumped from the vehicle shortly before. The officers found him shortly after in an evident state of hypothermia, rescued him and with the help of an ambulance transported him to the emergency room of the Caserta hospital.
After a three-day journey, the minors were entrusted to the Comete facility in Casoria (Na), while the only adult, seeking political asylum, is in a reception center in the province of Caserta.
