Soncino. The Postamat scam continues to claim victims. This time it was a woman from Soncino who fell into the trap of a 35-year-old Romanian, resident in the province of Caserta, who has now been reported by the Soncino Carabinieri.
The trap was triggered by an email fictitiously addressed to Poste Italiane, which requested an application update. The woman from Soncino, immediately after following the instructions, encountered problems accessing the app.
At this point she was contacted by telephone by a so-called Poste Italiane operator, who indicated to her the methods for resolving the problems by providing her with a code to enter at a Poste Italiane Postamat.
The woman, unaware of the attempted scam, went to a counter and carried out the operation recommended by the phantom operator. “All solved,” she must have thought. Then, instead, the bitter discovery: 5.000 euros had disappeared from the account. Hence the immediate complaint to the Soncino Carabinieri, who discovered and reported the person responsible.
