The documentary "Becoming Educating Communities” reconstructs the realization of the Fa.CE project, selected by the social enterprise With the children within the Fund for the fight against juvenile educational poverty and coordinated by Reggio Children Foundation – Loris Malaguzzi Center, born from the educational experience of Reggio Emilia.
A project that aimed to strengthen educational and care services for 0-6 year olds, helping to redefine educational policies, and build an educational community.
"The Fa.CE project – states Carla Rinaldi, president of the Reggio Children Foundation, in the video – teaches us what can be done against the scourge of educational poverty, which is above all a lack of care. This project bears the signs of that new school that opens up to the territory, becoming a starting point for relationships and taking charge with other actors. Symbol and gateway to quality education, in its value of permanent education in which we must all participate".
"The school is a great garrison of the Republic – says Marco Rossi-Doria, president of Con I Bambini, in the interview– but it can't do it alone, a territorial alliance is really needed, respecting the different professions. It seems to me that the Fa.CE project shows everyone that this is possible, it's a great experience and that the cities that are most capable of including children are also better cities for all adults of all ages".
Like a mosaic, the Fa.CE project emerges from the direct testimonies of 40 parents, children, teachers and school directors, cultural associations and public, educational, scholastic, social-health institutions. Among the institutional voices, in addition to those of Carla Rinaldi and Marco Rossi-Doria, those of Patrizio Bianchi, Minister of Education, the mayors of Reggio Emilia, Luca Vecchi and of Teramo, Gianguido D'Alberto, the councilors delegated to 0-6, Annamaria Palmieri, Municipality of Naples, Giovanna Marano, Municipality of Palermo, Raffaella Curioni, Municipality of Reggio Emilia and Romano Sassatelli, president of Fondazione Manodori – Acri.
Directed by Davide Landis, of the Dire Press Agency, Bologna office and the collaboration of the protagonists of the four territories, the video-story develops in four main sections: “the educational communities","educational poverty and caring","the school and the network of relationships","Fa.CE and seeds of the future".
The images were filmed between 2018 and 2021 by Davide Landi, Elisa Manacorda, Alessandro Violi, Alessandro Bottone, ArciMovie Napoli, GrafiMovie Palermo in compliance with safety regulations in the difficult conditions of the pandemic, the interviews were also collected remotely or during the final event on May 28th.

With the images of the suburbs and neighborhoods, the impressions of mothers and fathers, the faces and gestures of children, the voices of experts, the strength of the educational communities that were born with Fa.CE in the Ponticelli neighborhoods of Naples, Sperone and Brancaccio in Palermo, Regina Pacis in Reggio Emilia and in the historic center of Teramo, hit by the earthquake, is evident.
Through weekly, extracurricular and recurring integrative activities, co-designed and implemented in the territories, and in which children and parents participated together, the project has allowed us to overcome loneliness, has focused attention on childhood and quality education, has created connections and bonds, networks between families and the territory, which will continue even beyond the end of the project itself, on new occasions.
Since 2018, three thousand people have been involved, including two thousand children and parents and a thousand educators, teachers, school principals, pedagogists. The Fund for the fight against child educational poverty, which supported the project, was born from an agreement between the banking foundations represented by Acri, the National Third Sector Forum and the Government.
